Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Launches Collaboration with Hope for Henry Foundation to Support Pediatric Patients Thanks to Lids Foundation

The program “Super Rewards for Super Kids” helps pediatric patients with serious illness to cope with difficult medical procedures

Miami, FL (March 22, 2024) Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and the Hope for Henry Foundation launched a new collaboration on Wednesday to benefit hospitalized children receiving care at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

This event marked the start of Hope for Henry’s “Super Rewards for Super Kids” program for Nicklaus Children’s patients. This innovative program incentivizes children to adhere to critical medical procedures that can be frightening or uncomfortable, like MRIs, CT scans, vaccinations, and more. Applying principles of behavioral economics to children’s care, it reduces anxiety surrounding necessary diagnostic processes and treatments, limits the need for sedation, and allows for more efficient treatment to help patients and families heal and thrive.

This collaboration between Nicklaus Children’s and Hope for Henry is funded for $100,000 over one year by the Lids Foundation, the official charitable organization of the Lids Sports Group.

Hope for Henry’s Director of National Programs Kelly Beck met with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital clinical leadership; and Carolyn Fung (COO) and Erin Behen (Program Manager) provided training and materials for pediatric staff and Child Life Program specialists to implement the Super Rewards program, and distribute gifts donated by the Lids Foundation and Hope for Henry for pediatric patients.

“We are incredibly grateful to add the support of Hope for Henry and the Lids Foundation to the many patient experience activations we provide our patients and families,” said Shannon Odell, MSN, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, CENP, RNC-OB, vice president and chief nursing officer at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. “At Nicklaus Children’s, we strive to create an environment that stands by our mission, where children matter most. These collaborations allow us to bring a smile to every patient and family we care for.”

“In collaboration with Lids Foundation and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Hope for Henry aims to significantly enhance pediatric patient experiences, reduce sedation rates, and build coping skills through our Super Rewards for Super Kids™ program; we are excited to see how this partnership positively impacts the kids and families of the Miami community,” said Carolyn Fung, Chief Operating Officer of Hope for Henry.
